Our approach

Built for every season.

On Norway’s west coast, families farmed the fields in summer and fished the sea through the winter. Two kinds of work, one steady household, built to last through good years and lean ones. We own businesses the same way: patiently, with a long view, measured in decades rather than quarters.

“As long as the earth lasts, planting and harvest, summer and winter will never stop.”

Genesis 8:22, paraphrased

Om meg · About

You’ll deal with me, not a fund.

I’m Jason, and I started Longfield to buy one great small business and run it for the long haul. My career has spanned recruiting, finance, sales and operations: finding and keeping good people, reading the numbers and helping businesses run better. I believe the team is the business, and I intend to treat yours that way.

I come from a long line of owners. For generations our family owned and ran a farm and fishing operation on Karmøy, an island off Norway’s west coast: grain in the summer, the sea in the winter. My great-grandfather crossed to America and started his own home building business in Minnesota. My grandfather, a watchmaker, owned a jewelry and watch store in Willmar that he ran with my grandmother for 30 years, and my mom built and owns her own sports management company.

Longfield is named after that first farm. I’m the eleventh generation in my family to own and run a business, and I know what a business means to the family who builds it and to the town around it.

Slekt · Our family

Eleven generations of builders.

More than 250 years owning and running the same farm and fishery on Norway’s coast, then a home building business, a jewelry and watch store and a sports management company in Minnesota. Different businesses, the same habit: build something, take care of it and hand it on.

Questions we hear most

Will my employees keep their jobs?
That’s our plan. Your team is a big part of why we want the business, and we don’t buy companies to cut them.
Will you keep the name?
In almost every case, yes. Your customers know and trust it.
How involved do I stay after the sale?
As much or as little as you want. Most owners help with a 3–12 month handoff, planned around you.
How do you pay for the business?
Typically a mix of bank or SBA financing, our own capital and, in some cases, seller financing. We’ll walk you through it before any offer.
Is this confidential?
Completely. Nobody, including your employees, hears about our conversations unless you choose to tell them.
